The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certification Exam, administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), is a key step for advanced practice nurses specializing in mental health care. This certification, known as PMHNP-BC, qualifies nurse practitioners to provide comprehensive psychiatric care across the lifespan, addressing mental health needs for patients of all ages.
The exam evaluates knowledge and skills in critical areas, including diagnosis, treatment planning, psychotherapy, and ethical practice. It includes 175 multiple-choice questions (with 150 scored and 25 unscored) and must be completed within 3.5 hours. A minimum scaled score of 350 is required to pass.
